Wolfsburg

Last year we went to Wolfsburg for the weekend - as you do on the spur of the moment when you're bored and the weather's good. Can't recall our actual mileage now, but it was a long day's driving each way, with two of us sharing the driving and a fast Mk5 TDI 2 litre Golf.

It was a great trip and we'll be going back again to see what we missed last time. In fact, it will probably be a Nottingham Club GTI trip when we get it organised. (Contact us if you're interested in joining us)

Needless to say, part of the attraction was being able to thrash the Mk5 along the autobahns at up to 140 pmh - without having to worry about being clocked!

But not necessarily a trip we'd recommend in an old, high-mileage Mk2, unless you allow a lot more time than our three days.

All the Germans (and Italians) we met were friendly, and all spoke English to some degree. We were made very welcome and they seemed somewhat surprised that we'd driven all that way to see Wolfsburg.
